We are one of the largest before and after school childcare programs in Maryland with 14 centers located in Carroll County and one in Baltimore County. Because of our split schedule, we are able to offer flexible hours in the morning or the late afternoon throughout the school year. Our positions can accommodate individuals looking for full time employment and those needing part time due to college or high school class schedules.

ABC Care offers great positions for those individuals entering the field of education or who are currently working in the school age environment.

Positions and qualifications for before and after care programs:

  • Age 16 years or older
  • Willing to take continuing education classes
  • Willing to take CPR & First Aid class
  • Willing to take 3 hours of Basic Health & Safety 
  • To work directly under the supervision of either a School Age Childcare Teacher, Assistant Site Director or a Site Director.
  • Assist in setting up the center’s daily activities.
  • Must be able to bend at a 45 degree angle, must be able to lift 30 lbs, must be able to twist body both left and right, must be able to sit on the ground and get up successfully without assistance from another person, must be able to squat, must be able to stand a minimum of 4 hours, must be able to walk up and down stairs.
  • Having a driver’s license to be able to get from one center to another in a timely manner is preferred.
  • To maintain a professional attitude.
  • Assist with general cleaning duties.
  • Remain actively engaged with children during your shift.
  • To attend center staff meetings, all staff meetings and training programs. 
  • Work towards creating an environment where children are accepted and differences are appreciated.
  • Assist in keeping storage areas clean and orderly.
  • Engage in appropriate, meaningful conversations with children.
  • Work towards guiding children in understanding and following clearly defined limits.
  • Inform the School Age Childcare Teacher, Assistant Site Director or Site Director of any concerns or problems.
  • Be a productive member of the center’s team.
  • Follow the ABC Care dress code.

Salary: $15 – $16/hr; 10-15 hours

  • Age 18 years or older
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Willing to take 3 hours each of Basic Health & Safety and Including All Children and the ADA
  • Willing to take continuing education classes
  • Willing to take CPR & First Aid class
  • One of the following:
    • 800 Hours of recent paid or documented volunteer experience supervising groups of school age children;
    • 600 Hours of approved experience and 15 clock hours of approved college coursework; or
    • 400 Hours of approved experience and 45 clock hours, or their equivalent, of approved college coursework
  • Must be able to bend at a 45 degree angle, must be able to lift 30 lbs, must be able to twist body both left and right, must be able to sit on the ground and get up successfully without assistance of another person, must be able to squat, must be able to stand a minimum of 4 hours, must be able to walk up and down stairs.
  • Having a driver’s license to be able to get from one center to another in a timely manner is preferred.
  • May be called on to assume responsibility for small group for short time
  • Perform all duties of Aide (listed above)

Salary: $16.25 – $17/hr; 15-30 hours

  • Age 19 years or older
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Willing to take CPR and First Aid class
  • Willing to take college courses (if necessary to become School Age Child Care Teacher qualified)
  • Willing to take continuing education classes
  • 9 hours Communication Skills Training OR one academic college course for credit
  • Prepare age appropriate activities & implement activities within the daily schedule
  • Must be able to bend at a 45 degree angle, must be able to lift 30 lbs, must be able to twist body both left and right, must be able to sit on the ground and get up successfully without assistance of another person, must be able to squat, must be able to stand a minimum of 4 hours, must be able to walk up and down stairs.
  • Having a drivers license to be able to get from one center to another in a timely manner is preferred.
  • One 3-credit class (45 clock hours) on child development
  • One 3-credit class (45 clock hours) on school age level curriculum
  • One of the following:
    • 400 hours or more of experience working under supervision primarily with school age children in a licensed center, public or private school or in recreation and parks or similar setting; or
    • A combination of college that includes six semester hours of approved training and experiences that equal one year
  • Perform all duties of Aide & Assistant Teacher (listed above)

Salary: $17.75 –  $20/hr; 25-30 hours

  • Age 20 years or older
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Willing to take CPR and First Aid class
  • Willing to take continuing education classes
  • Supervise staff providing support, performance feedback and ensure staff working with you meet their position requirements
  • Assist with carrying out program’s behavioral guidelines in compliance with ABC Care & MSDE standards
  • 9 hours Communication Skills Training OR one academic college course for credit
  • 3 hours each of Basic Health & Safety and Including All Children & the ADA
  • Must be able to bend at a 45 degree angle, must be able to lift 30 lbs, must be able to twist body both left and right, must be able to sit on the ground and get up successfully without assistance of another person, must be able to squat, must be able to stand a minimum of 4 hours, must be able to walk up and down stairs.
  • Having a drivers license to be able to get from one center to another in a timely manner is preferred.
  • One of the following:
    • One 3-credit class (45 clock hours) on child development / One 3-credit class (45 clock hours) on school age level curriculum / 400 hours -800 hours of experience working under supervision primarily with school age children in a licensed center, public or private school or in recreation and parks or similar setting

      OR

    • Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in related field / 1,800 hours of experience working under supervision primarily with school age children in a licensed center, public or private school or in recreation and parks or similar setting

  • Perform all duties of Aide, Assistant Teacher & Teacher (listed above)

Salary: $21 – $22/hr; 25-30 hours

  • Age 21 years or older
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • CPR and First Aid class
  • Must be able to bend at a 45 degree angle, must be able to lift 30 lbs, must be able to twist body both left and right, must be able to sit on the ground and get up successfully without assistance of another person, must be able to squat, must be able to stand a minimum of 4 hours, must be able to walk up and down stairs.
  • Having a driver’s license to be able to get from one center to another in a timely manner is preferred.
  • Supervise staff including providing guidance and support during training and daily interactions
  • Purchase supplies/snack items while maintaining an updated inventory and written snack menu
  • Control expenses and maintain expense reports/receipts, submitting on time
  • Willing to take continuing education classes
  • Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the program
  • One 3-credit class on child development
  • One 3-credit class on school age level curriculum
  • 400 hours of documented experience with school age children
  • One of the following:
    • 400 hours -800 hours of experience working under supervision primarily with school age children in a licensed center, public or private school or in recreation and parks or similar setting

    • 9 hours Communication Skills Training OR one academic college course for credit

    • 3 hours of Director Regulation Training from MSDE-OCC

    • 6 hours each of Medication Administration & Emergency Preparedness Trainings

    • 3 hours each of Basic Health & Safety and Including All Children & the ADA

Salary:  $22 – $23/hour; 30-35 hours

  • Age 21 years or older
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • CPR and First Aid class
  • Must be able to bend at a 45 degree angle, must be able to lift 30 lbs, must be able to twist body both left and right, must be able to sit on the ground and get up successfully without assistance of another person, must be able to squat, must be able to stand a minimum of 4 hours, must be able to walk up and down stairs.

  • Willing to take continuing education classes
  • Supervise staff including training staff, leading staff meeting, delegating tasks and reviewing lesson plans prior to implementation
  • Respond to parent concerns and reports of accidents, taking appropriate responsive action when necessary.
  • One 3-credit class on child development
  • One 3-credit class on school age level curriculum
  • 400 hours of documented experience with school age children
  • One of the following:
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, or any four-year degree that concentrates on school age children from kindergarten through eighth grade and includes child development and school age curriculum;
    • AA Degree in Education or Psychology;
    • Bachelor’s Degree in an unrelated field and 400 hours as a School Age Child Care Teacher (SACCT); or
    • Nine (9) months’ experience as a school age provider and one (1) year of college.

Salary: $23.50 – $30/hour; 30-40 hours
