ABC Care Center – Friendship Valley Elementary School

A MD EXCELS Level 3 center and three-time nationally accredited program, ABC Care Center at Friendship Valley offers self-selected and organized team activities in language arts, creative arts and STEM, allowing children to pursue projects and topics of interest to them. Our program also provides planned activities to assist children with social and emotional development. Students enjoy supervised free play and team games in the large school gymnasium, outdoor playground and blacktop areas. Our extended afternoon hours give children more time to experience all that ABC Care has to offer including more complex art and science projects and extra time outdoors for more active time.

The NAA Standards for School-Age Quality specifically address the indicators of quality programs reflected in current research. Examples include meeting the developmentally different needs of youth, 5-14 years, involving children and youth in program planning, providing positive interactions between children and youth and adults, and ensuring a safe and challenging environment for children and youth in and out of school time.

COA's After School Standards represent a merging of NAA's standards and COA's 8th Edition Standards, and include three different sections of standards: After School Program Administration (ASP-AM), After School Human Resources (ASP-HR), and After School Programming and Services (ASP-PS). The set of standards are based on generally-accepted elements of best practice, outcomes-oriented, effective in advancing quality, and responsive to the unique needs and diversity of after school programs. Ashley Appler

Mrs. Ashley currently has her Bachelors of Science of Elementary Education degree from Stevenson University. She has 6 years of experience with ABC Care and 5 years of experience in the elementary classroom, teaching 3^rd and 4^th grades. In her free time, she likes to read books even ones in the process of being published, hike or enjoy nature on a nice day, and go to the park or on playdates with her daughter, Skyler.

The ABC Care Center at Eldersburg Elementary is a MD EXCELS Level 3 and three-time nationally accredited program providing enriching learning activities, team building exercises and group games for students. The daily routine provides quiet homework time, STEM, social studies, language arts and creative expression activities as well as supervised free play in the school’s large gymnasium, outdoor playground and blacktop areas. Our extended afternoon hours give children more time to experience all that ABC Care has to offer including more complex art and science projects and extra time outdoors for more active time.

Amanda Edwards

Amanda Edwards is Site Director at Eldersburg ABC Care. Amanda has taught in the public school system for 10 years and has experience in Head Start and childcare. She earned a Bachelors degree in ECE from Lock Haven University in Pennsylvania. Amanda has spent the last 6 years teaching preschool. She enjoys watching her daughter play soccer and basketball. ABC Care Center – Ebb Valley Elementary School

At the ABC Care Center at Ebb Valley, a MD EXCELS Level 1 Program, children benefit from a structured daily schedule mixed with teacher-led and student-led activities. Our program provides homework assistance, supervised free play and team games in the school’s large gymnasium and two outdoor playgrounds. Children enjoy the varied expressive drama box options, from doll houses to super hero figures, and take part in a variety of themed messy arts and crafts and STEM experiments during morning and afternoon sessions.

ABC Care Center – Parr’s Ridge Elementary School

The ABC Care Center program at Parr’s Ridge, is a MD EXCELS Level 1 Center with three national accreditations, serving students in kindergarten through second grade. We provide a daily structured routine, with a balance between enrichment activities and social engagement. Weekly programming is centered around a theme and planned activities assist children with social and emotional development. Each month the center focuses on a character trait to reinforce values such as respect and kindness. Children enjoy supervised free play time on the school’s large playground and blacktop areas as well as in its large gymnasium.

Timiri Breden

Timiri Breden was previously employed with ABC Care as a site director during the 2015-2016 school year. We welcomed her back for the start of the 2022 school year. She has over 10 years experience in the childcare field and is a certified lead teacher and director in all age groups (6-weeks through school age). She studied at Howard Community College where she received all of her certifications and continuing education coursework. Timiri spends most of her free time with her two young daughters in Sykesville, where she resides. She also loves painting and creating art projects for herself and daughters!
