ABC Care Center – North Carroll Community School

At the ABC Care Center at North Carroll Community School children benefit from a structured daily schedule mixed with teacher-led and student-led activities. Our program provides homework assistance, supervised free play and team games in the school’s large gymnasium and two outdoor playgrounds. Children enjoy the varied expressive drama box options, from doll houses to super hero figures, and take part in a variety of themed messy arts and crafts and STEM experiments during morning and afternoon sessions.

The NAA Standards for School-Age Quality specifically address the indicators of quality programs reflected in current research. COA's After School Standards represent a merging of NAA's standards and COA's 8th Edition Standards, and include three different sections of standards: After School Program Administration (ASP-AM), After School Human Resources (ASP-HR), and After School Programming and Services (ASP-PS). The set of standards are based on generally-accepted elements of best practice, outcomes-oriented, effective in advancing quality, and responsive to the unique needs and diversity of after school programs. Jen Sandy

Jen joined the team as an assistant in 2021 and then moved up to a teacher position in 2023. She became the site Director in late 2023 and started the new school year at NCCS. She is a single mom to a 10-year-old son who loves to draw. She has been in childcare for 12+ years and has also worked in the field of special education and trained and worked for a year as a verbal behavior therapist. In addition to her childcare courses, she also took classes in psychology.

In her spare time, Jen likes to be outside when it’s nice and spend time with her son. She also enjoys watching movies when she is at home. Her favorite genre is horror! Nothing is better than a good scary movie in the dark.

From Westminster take MD-27 N/Manchester Rd. Make a right on to 482E/Hampstead-Mexico Road. Make a right onto Panther Drive. Make a right onto Shiloh Road and a left into the school. Parents and staff can park on the left side of the building in the parking lot. There is a path to the left of the dumpsters on the back of the school that leads to door #6, ring the doorbell and let us know you are there.

Jessica Keller

Jessica Chambers is quick to build relationships with the students and their families. Jessica loves to play card games at the centers with the students, especially Phase 10. Jessica is currently working on obtaining her Elementary Education degree from Liberty University. Jessica loves to teach children while encouraging them to follow their dreams. Outside of work, Jessica loves to take naps, be with family/friends, and be outdoors.

Timiri Breden

Timiri Breden was previously employed with ABC Care as a site director during the 2015-2016 school year. We welcomed her back for the start of the 2022 school year. She has over 10 years experience in the childcare field and is a certified lead teacher and director in all age groups (6-weeks through school age). She studied at Howard Community College where she received all of her certifications and continuing education coursework. Timiri spends most of her free time with her two young daughters in Sykesville, where she resides. She also loves painting and creating art projects for herself and daughters! ABC Care Center – Westminster Elementary School

The ABC Care program at Westminster Elementary is a two-time nationally accredited, MD EXCELS Level 2 program, offering enriching daily experiences, including science, cooking and art, computer, drama, and manipulatives and participating in a variety of team-building activities. The Westminster center staff spends a great deal of time teaching about the heritages of children attending the center, with special events and cooking sessions. Students also enjoy their supervised free play time in the school’s large gymnasium, outdoor playground and blacktop area.

The ABC Care Center at St. John Catholic School is a MD EXCELS Level 4 and two-time nationally accredited program, serving pre-kindergarten students ages 3 and 4 through middle school from multiple school communities in one location. Our age-appropriate activities ensure enrichment and learning at the child’s level, enabling all students to reach their individual potential. Our students are actively engaged in daily activities as they run a café, create messy art projects, and plan large events for the center. Students also enjoy their supervised free play time in the school’s large gymnasium.

Brittany Shenk

Brittany Shenk is our ABC Care Site Director at Saint John Catholic School. Brittany is new to the ABC Care family, but she has been working in childcare since 2007. Through her career as a Preschool Teacher, she has had the privilege of working with children of all ages, from infants to middle schoolers. Brittany has an affinity for sharing her passion for science and reading with her students as well as encouraging their creativity and independence. Brittany enjoys playing video games with her son or visiting museums and science centers with him. When she has free time, Brittany loves to study geology, curl up with a good book, or take a nap.

ABC Care Center – Sacred Heart School of Glyndon

The nationally accredited, MD EXCELS Level 1 ABC Care Center at Sacred Heart serves over 75 families, including pre-kindergarten students ages 3 and 4 through middle school age students. The program strives to create a warm and inviting atmosphere. The children work on age-appropriate daily art activities, math and science projects, and enjoy extended homework time promoting academic success. Our activities promote creativity with multiple student produced “shows” performed throughout the year by all ages. Students also enjoy both team games and free play time in the school’s large gymnasium or outdoors on the large playground.

ABC Care Center – Piney Ridge Elementary School

The ABC Care Center at Piney Ridge is a three-time nationally accredited and MD EXCELS Level 3 center. The program offers out-of-the-box activities in STEM as well as creative arts. Students choose their rotations between construction manipulatives, drama, and a designated homework area. Hands-on experiments encourage exploration of special topics. Children enjoy supervised free time on the school’s large playground, blacktop area and in its large gymnasium.

Penny Hoffman

Penny Hoffman joined ABC Care in October 2017 as an Assistant. She has three adult children, one is an aspiring musician, one is a recent graduate of Virginia Tech, and one is a Junior at Virginia Tech. When not a work, Penny enjoys, cooking, exercising, and spending time with family and friends. Penny worked for a law firm in Washington, D,C. prior to having children. Penny was a stay-at-home mother until a few years ago. Penny pursued childcare since she wanted to work with children after raising her own. Since being with ABC Care, her passion with working with children has only grown and she continues to learn from her experiences and looks forward to getting to know each and every family.
